Important Info from school admissions

11 December 2017

Shropshire Council, as admission authority for community and controlled schools in Shropshire, is conducting a consultation exercise on School Admission Arrangements for 2019/20. The Council is simultaneously co-ordinating a consultation exercise for own admission authority schools, such as academies, whose governing bodies are responsible for setting their admission arrangements and who wish to make changes to those arrangements. We wish to notify all parents/carers that the consultation will begin on Friday 15 December for a period of 6 weeks up until 27 January 2018.

In summary the proposed changes are as follows:

 Minor changes to the designated catchment area at secondary transfer to align with the primary designated catchment area. This will affect a small number of residents located at Bomere Heath, Hoptonheath, Rowton (near Broome), English Frankton, Atterley, Pennerley and Stanwardine in the Wood. (Please see for more information and illustrative maps.)

Crowmoor Primary School in Shrewsbury is proposing a reduction to its Published Admission Number from 34 to 30 to enable better class organisation.

Barrow 1618 CE Free School have proposed the addition of children of teaching staff as a new criterion in their policy.

Ellesmere Primary School have proposed the addition of children of staff as a new criterion in their policy and priority for children with siblings attending the school.

 Severn Bridges Multi-Academy Trust in Shrewsbury (Greenfields Primary School, Mount Pleasant Primary School and Radbrook Primary School) have proposed the addition of children of staff criterion to each of their school policies.

Shrewsbury Cathedral Catholic Primary School have proposed to prioritise all looked after children, regardless of whether they are baptised Catholic children and to make minor changes to their oversubscription criteria.

The consultation documents containing further information can be found on the Shropshire website: by following the link to the Consultation on Admission Arrangements 2019.

If parents wish to make comments on any of the proposed changes by Friday 26 January 2018 they should e-mail or write to:

The Elf Strikes Again!!!

After a long search, we found the naughty Elf digging in Mr Smiths area. I think a trip to Mrs.Whelan’s office will be in store tomorrow…

Time for tolerance!

It’s that’s Christmas time of year again,

Glitter and sparkly everywhere.

Loads of fun, but loads to do,

The hours at school seem but few!

It time we put on those red pants and get our magic dust,

Because it is a time of year when tolerance is a must!

So dear parents we ask you give this to us too and know that we have lots to do,

Giving out cards, many jobs, sorting things out… bits and bobs…

… So alongside teaching, parties and productions,

This leads to much exhaustion!

We might not get things out this week (or next) on time,

However, hope you enjoyed our little rhyme!

Schoolgames sporting updates

On a cold afternoon last Thursday at the sports village, it was the turn of the Y5/6 cross-county teams to represent Oakmeadow in the schoolgames.  Having walked the course, we tried to stay warm before it was everyone’s turn to race.  The Y5 girls were up first, with Dulcie Dowling in particular doing a very credible 19th in her first competitive cross country.  Next, it was the Y5 boys, with Maddox Gray just finishing inside the top 10.  Following this, the Y6 girls were next up on the muddy course in a busy field, with the boys finally finishing the event, with Charlie Lewis finishing in a great 6th place.  We are just waiting to hear, but we believe that both Maddox and Charlie should have done enough to represent Shrewsbury at the schoolgames day in March.  Well done to all children who took part and represented their school admirably.

Y5 boys: Maddox Gray, George Hadley, Jake Wallin, Ethan Barber, George Bellingham, Max partridge

Y5 girls: Ellie Bowen, Libby Keeble, Dulcie Dowling, Milly Schofield-Powell, Lily-Anne Herries

Y6 Boys: Finlay Rogers, Charlie Lewis, Jimmy Richards, Regan Connelly, Lewis Smith-King, Alfie Page

Y6 Girls: Lilly-May Corfield, Tilly Jones, Ella Robinson, Lauren Tomkins, Flo Taylor

This afternoon, 6 children from Y5 and Y6 represented our school in the annual basketball event.  In a frenetic and often feisty competition, we progressed in our game throughout.  Having drawn 1-1 with Belvidere, we then just lost out 2-1 to Meole Brace, before beating Coleham 5-0, with a super Harry Carr triple basket,  It was down to the final game against Longden to see who would finish as runners up behind Meole in second place.  Having led the game throughout with a hat-trick of baskets from Esme Hanna, we unfortunately conceded a last minute basket which tied the game 4-4, meaning we just missed out on making the semi-finals by two points.  A great effort all round from mostly Y5s, so we could go even further next year!

Team: Esme Hanna, Lilly-May Corfield, Harry Carr, Jake Wallin, Maddox Gray, Caiden Sadd

That is it for the schoolgames for this calendar year!  It returns end of January for the sportshall athletics, which is always a great event.  Stay tuned to see how we fare.

Name the Elf!!

Coming up…. we are starting our NAME THE ELF competition on the 5th December….

What do you think he is called?  Choose a name from the list coming around school, 50p a go.  The name will be announced at Winter Wonderland!

In the meantime … elf will be ‘shelfing’ around school … will you see what he gets up to?!
